Respite stays to the rescue

“John” had been living alone in his rural home on a lake when he fell and was found by his cleaning person. He moved to the city for a few weeks to stay with his sister but had a hard time adjusting to city life. His sister called in a panic: did we have a respite suite at Carolina Suites, a BayBridge Senior Living community, where he could stay in his small town while he recuperated?

Quiet and reserved, John was reluctant to move in to the retirement residence at first. We welcomed him with a bottle of his favourite sherry. He quickly made friends and staked out a spot at the front entrance where he could people-watch or offer a hand with coffee. When we showed his sister pictures of John smiling at various events at the residence, she said it had been a long time since she’d seen her brother looking this happy. In fact, he was so pleased with the care and service that he extended his stay.

Families and seniors find that respite stays are perfect in cases where a loved one needs help while recovering from surgery or illness. Guests who book a respite stay enjoy all the benefits of independent living including a variety of rooms and floor plans to choose from, individualized care from attentive staff, freshly prepared meals, social, leisure and fitness programs, and weekly housekeeping. Short-term stays similarly help for seniors who’d like to try a retirement residence, or for families who are temporarily unable to care for a loved one due to travel or illness.

John thrived at Carolina Suites. He appreciated the peace of mind of knowing he could take advantage of support from the wellness staff when he needed it. He enjoyed his stay so much that, after he returned home, he made a deposit to return to the residence a few months later.

If your family needs a temporary place where a loved one will be safe and happy, you can find a BayBridge senior living community near you.
