5 Reasons Seniors Like Our Food
Most BayBridge Senior Living residents are happy to hand over chores like grocery shopping and cooking; it means they get to sit down with friends a few times a day and enjoy great meals. Here’s what seniors enjoy most about dining at our retirement communities.
Our dining room staff consistently scores highest in resident surveys. “They not only know what you like, they know when you like it, such as bringing your tea halfway through your entrée,” says Gary McBlain, Regional Director of Culinary Services.
Plenty of Variety
McBlain says most seniors who move in are surprised by the amount of choice. During a four-week period, each resident can choose from 112 different entrées at lunch and dinner, plus à la carte items. Lunches might feature French toast or a Monte Cristo sandwich; favourite dinners are chicken à la king, roast turkey, prime rib, beef tenderloin or salmon with lemon sauce.
We see their energy and mood improving because it’s easier to make healthy choices
When you’re cooking for one, it’s tempting to call tea and toast a meal. “Suddenly we’re putting fruits and vegetables and lean proteins in front of people and we see their energy and mood improving because it’s easier to make healthy choices,” says McBlain.
Kitchens accommodate allergies, selective eaters and medical conditions whether it’s gluten free, low-sugar or -salt, or modified diabetic. What if a senior requests a dish that’s not on the menu? No problem: we have regulars who just want a peanut butter sandwich or a cheese plate for lunch.
Our culinary teams feature certified, professionally trained chefs who excel in hospitality. They’re also nice people. “They get to know the residents and they’re open to feedback,” says McBlain. “The chef at The Marleigh does lots of private dining events for the residents. At Masonville Manor they do Milkshake Mondays. The Heatherwood has both excellent food and presentation. The chef at Living Life on the Avenue is uncompromising with ingredients yet he also knows his residents like a good hot dog.”
